Whether
you are looking for fresh seafood, sushi, tacos,
or just a good old fashion cheessburger, there is
something for everyone here in Quepos/Manuel Antonio.
Although natural beauty abounds in this amazing
country, there are just a handful of destinations
that offer those stunning natural surroundings coupled
with the amenities, infrastructure and services
which make an extended vacation so enjoyable.
Manuel
Antonio is one of these special destinations and
the vast array of dining options is one of the biggest
draws of this fantastic destination. The following
are a few of our suggestions for dining in the area.
RESTAURANTS:
SUNSPOT
BAR AND GRILL: Located in the exclusive Hotel
Makanda by the Sea, this restaurant is far and away
the area’s finest dining experience. The poolside
location makes for a casual environment from which
to enjoy the gastronomic delights of the local chefs.
Lunch offers an array of burgers, quesadillas, fresh
salads, foccaccia bread sandwiches and delicious
gourmet pizzas to name a few. Relax in the pool
while the friendly staff serves lunch to your chairs.
Dinner is a true experience with candlelight dining
and a gourmet menu offering everything from New
Zealand Rack of Lamb to Lobster tails. An amazing
experience! Adults only.
KAROLAS:
This open air jungle restaurant is one of the area
favorites. The menu is a bit simpler than that of
the Sunspot, but nevertheless is just as delicious.
Fresh Tuna, sashimi and the famous La Bomba Burrito
wraps are favorites here. Don’t miss out on the
delicious but dangerous Margaritas and the re-known
desserts including an incredible Macadamia nut pie!
BARBA
ROJA: The grandfather of all local eateries,
the “Barba” is a great spot for delicious no nonsense
dining. A great menu of fresh seafood, burgers,
chicken and endless array of appetizers make this
a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. This
spot is particular popular for its sunset happy
hour and early dining. A great spot to get to know
some of the residents here in Manuel Antonio.
GRAN
ESCAPE: This is the TGI FRIDAY’s of Costa Rica.
With an incredibly diverse menu including fresh
seafood, burgers, Mexican food, soups, salads, and
much more, this is a great spot for that family
that just can’t decide. A favorite with sportfisherman,
the Gran Escape is a popular watering hole as well.
The service and staff are friendly and the atmosphere
one of the liveliest in Quepos. Also, don’t miss
a shot at the new Sushi Bar, with authentic Japanese
chef. If the fish were any fresher it would be swimming!

MAR
Y LUNA: If you are a seafood lover looking for
a local destination to get good food at a great
price, look no further. This little dive is located
at the apex of the hill leading to Manuel Antonio
and offers beautiful sunset views. The restaurant
only holds about 25 people and is always packed.
Go early, enjoy the sunset with a homemade ceviche,
and get ready for some fantastic fresh seafood!
SODA
MARLIN: This restaurant is located right across
the street from Playa Espadilla and is a great spot
to catch some rays, people watch and enjoy some
good local food. The menu is dotted with typical
Costa Rican dishes, along with some continental
favorites and the location is unbeatable. A great
place to stop for lunch after a trip to the park
or to go for a casual dinner.
ESCALOFRIO:
An authentic Italian eatery located in the heart
of downtown Quepos. The wood burning oven cranks
out thin crust Italian pizza and you can choose
between many “al dente” pasta dishes. The only thing
more inviting than the menu is the amazing selection
of gourmet Italian Gelatos which they serve up for
dessert. Truly sinful!
There
are a host of other great restaurants here and it
would be impossible to list everyone who has good
food. Other spots worth checking out are the Thai
and Indonesian food at Hotel Plinio or the local
seafood staple at Juiberths. Just follow your nose
and stomach and you won’t be disappointed here in
Quepos/Manuel Antonio.
